Contract Description

Moore Air Base, building 6418 Mexican Fruit Fly Rearing Facility (MFFRF) (Mex-Fly), Mexican Fruit Fly Program’s overall goal is the eradication of Mexican Fruit Fly’s, (Anastrepha ludens) from the Lower Rio Grande Valley in Texas and the northern municipalities of Tamaulipas, Mexico. Eradication will be followed by the establishment and long-term maintenance of a functional barrier to keep these areas free of Mexican fruit fly. The Mexican Fruit Fly Rearing Facility can produce 160 million sterile flies a week to service the entire Rio Grande Valley’s citrus Mexican Fruit Fly eradication program. Building 6418 recently had a fire that damaged larval room numbers 1-4.
